Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of EASTECH Joins HandHeld Entertainment Board of Directors

Tim Liou joins board following announcement of the ZVUE! personal video player SAN FRANCISCO and SINGAPORE – July 31, 2003 – HandHeld Entertainment today announced that Tim Liou has joined its board of directors. Liou is chairman and chief executive officer of Eastern Asia Technology Limited (“EASTECH”), which will manufacture HandHeld’s ZVUE! personal video player under a two-year manufacturing agreement.

“Tim has been a leader in shaping the consumer electronics industry during the past 20-plus years, and that itself will help shape the future of HandHeld Entertainment and the ZVUE!” said Nathan Schulhof, chief executive officer of HandHeld Entertainment and the credited inventor of the MP3 player. “Tim knows what products consumers want to buy, how they want to buy them, and how they want them to function. With a history of working with companies that include Philips, Sanyo, Kenwood, Thomson and JBL, Tim has been at the heart of the consumer electronics industry for a long time.”

With more than 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur in the audio/video consumer electronics industry, Liou has led EASTECH to a remarkable 70-fold growth in revenue. That growth came as a result of Liou’s vision, which transformed EASTECH from a Taiwan-based manufacturer of box-unit speaker systems into a leading designer and cost-efficient manufacturer of audio, video and information/Internet appliances for the global home consumer electronics industry. It was recognized as one of the world’s 200 Best Companies Under $1 billion for 2002 by Forbes Global magazine.

Liou has also driven EASTECH to seven Innovations Design & Engineering Showcase honors from the Consumer Electronics Show (CES)—five in 2003, and one in both 2000 and 2002. Nathan Schulhof also received the award in 1997 for his Listen-Up personal audio player, which is the device that tagged him as the inventor of the MP3 player.

Liou joins HandHeld Entertainment’s board in the wake of HandHeld’s July 1, 2003 announcement that it had entered into a two-year, strategic and exclusive manufacturing agreement with EASTECH to manufacture the ZVUE! personal video player, which debuts in retail stores in October for $99.
